Redemption Farms is gearing up for its inaugural Fall Fest & Farm Tour this year, and the excitement is growing. The farm, owned by Wayne Cawley and family, has prepared a day filled with family-friendly activities that bring the best of fall to life. From pick-your-own apples and pumpkins to farm tours and a host of food trucks, Redemption Farms is ready to deliver an unforgettable autumn experience for visitors of all ages.
Wayne sees it as a celebration of the season as well as an opportunity to educate the community about farming. “As a newer farm business, we’re always looking for ways to increase our visibility to the public. In addition, we like to educate consumers on what it takes to produce the food they eat,” he says.
The Fall Fest & Farm Tour is set to feature fun activities for the entire family. Visitors can pick their own pumpkins from the farm’s expansive 2-acre pumpkin patch conveniently located behind the farm market. “Unlike most patches, we don’t charge an admission fee for any of our U-pick, and we’re growing our pumpkins — not just throwing them out into a grassy field,” Wayne says. This hands-on approach allows families to experience a genuine farm atmosphere, where they can grab a wagon, select their pumpkins and check out at the farm’s market.
There will also be pick-your-own apples, and Wayne has some excellent tips when heading out to the orchard. “First, follow the signs to the correct rows to ensure you pick apples that are ripe. Then, use two hands when picking to reduce apples falling off to the ground, and, finally, place your palm under the apple and twist up and over the branch rather than pulling — they’ll pop right off and you won’t damage the tree,” he says.
The farm’s festival shows how agritourism can bring farms and communities together, bridging the gap between consumers and the agricultural process to everyone’s benefit. “Agritourism is essential to our farm’s success,” Wayne says. “We’re too small to survive as a wholesale producer, so we rely on our direct-to-consumer sales to remain viable. We see a major disconnect from the farm to the consumer, so we feel the need to help people understand where their food comes from and what it takes to produce it.”
This October’s Redemption Farms Fall Fest & Farm Tour promises to be an enriching and fun experience for everyone, bringing communities closer to the land while supporting local agriculture.
